What do you tell people?

September 16th, 2006 at 05:12 am

I have wanted to post this thought on the discussion boards, but I never seem to get there enough!
What do you tell people when you are discussing friends on the blog boards? I find myself all the time saying "My friend on the blogs..." and they look at me kind of odd, like hey, you've never even met this person. My DH has just accepted it and is actually interested in what everyone is up to. It cracks him up to hear my bust out laughing when I am reading many of your more fun adventures!
So what do you say?????

I dunno...how about "My Bloggies" as compared to "My Homies" and "My Buddies"?????

Is there an official name? Inquirying minds want to know!

I have come up with this very thing in conversations.........and I have a time trying to explain myself. I thought blogging was taking off, but apparently not with the age group I belong to.

I have just ended up referring to 'a friend', and not saying where from. If I start to really explain, the conversation ends up in a totally different direction.

My husband thinks it is kind of strange, but I talk about you guys to him, all the time!

I usually get that same look you're describing...I do talk about my blogging buddies...but something just gets lost in translation, because they do look a little baffled by my concern, happiness, sadness and silliness that I share with people I know only through a written dialog...

I know the odd look well - try to explain running the entire site with someone you've never met (although we have corrected that Wink ) I think most of my friends have learned to accept it much like me talking like a family member they have never met.

With my husband I specify, and he will come right back with stories of 'dog101' and 'lorddude'....so he doesn't mind the occasionally odd names Smile
with anyone else it is 'I was reading online'......

I usually mention that I was "chatting online" or "chatting with a friend". No one ever asks, but I am the only one I know who gets so involved. It's amusing to me how involved we become in each other's lives. We often write the words "keep us posted" and I really mean it! I become concerned with the trivial aspects of everyone's daily lives! Isn't it funny?

Nothing. Smile I tell my F2F friends nothing about my blogging friends as blogging friends. Everyone is a friend - from OR, FL, CO, GA, etc. I identify y'all by your geographic marker.

When I was xplaining why I was gathering coupons for the coupon train, my young kids wanted to know why it was ok for me to talk to strangers on line. I had a tough time answering it...I think I changed the subject!

I call them penpals. I've had penpals since 5th grade all over the world, so no one thinks anything of it that my penpals are email pals now. Only now I have far more of them than I ever dreamed of when I was a kid writing to Germany, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Australia, U.K. and Maryland state.
