Cheap clothes for DD3

October 5th, 2007 at 04:46 am

Wow do I feel blessed! I told DD3 we would have to go over the hand me downs because it is SUPPOSED to get cold (some day). We pulled out all the hand me down clothes and jeans from her big sis, and all the stuff I bought at my neighbors garage sale. Looked like a good blend, but a little long on the jeans and short on the shirts. Lo and behold my other neighbor sent over some wonderful hand me downs and there were lots of cute shirts! A little small, she will have to wear them right now, but that is okay! Smile

Been having spend free days and cooking at home. Still no job, things are slim around here. Been pointing out to hubby every time he spends. Wink Nudge, nudge, point, point - see! It's not all me!

I just love getting "new to us" hand me downs from neighbors. My youngest daughter loves getting "new" clothes from friends and passing hers on to others.

My kids grew up in hand me downs and I don't think they ever expressed a preference for new over used. In fact, the 23 year old still loves to go to thrifts and get what he calls "old man shirts", those short sleeve, button up, often plaid shirts with a pocket or two. He wears them over tees and feels quite comfy in them! He's a frugal young man. Smile Now his brother..don't get me started. lol

Agreed. The kids mostly get used. People get all appalled. I've had people say to me, "well if you wouldn't wear used why would make your kids?" LOL. Who said I never bought used clothes? We have lots of Goodwill finds ourselves (most of our suits for one).

When I was a kid the only time I got bags of new clothes was when they were hand-me-downs from friends. LOVED it. Like I cared if they were "new" or "old." They were new to me. I tend to pick our nicer things for the kids so doubt they give a hoot. Bur yeah, a couple of new items from K-mart or a bag full of used clothes? I'll take the bag. Big Grin
That reminds me I still get lots of hand-me-downs as I am perceived to be much skinnier than I am. My friends keep handing me their size 8 clothes which they outgrow after having kids. I keep telling them they don't fit me and end up giving away most the stuff though. But funny to this day I still get piles of hand-me-downs.

Hand me downs are great! My daughter got two huge bags recently, and I hardly had to buy her any school clothes.
