Getting up the courage....

July 7th, 2008 at 07:02 pm

I have been carrying the responsibility of this debt myself. I am going make my husband listen to how much we owe. He chooses not to know, but I am tired of doing it alone. This could mean divorce for him. Seriously. So lets see if I can do it before the end of the week.

Oh, wow, sending good thoughts your way. Let us know how it goes. But, you're right. It is SO hard to be carrying the whole responsibility.

  2. JanH Says:

Oops. Just consider this another good thought for you!

I hope the talk with your husband goes well and that you can get him to realize how your finances/debt may affect the marriage. Good luck!

Sending positive thoughts your way. I hope your talk works out well, and I wish you courage to do whatever you must do.

My sister was having the same difficulty with her husband. She enrolled them in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. He went, but not willingly. They are now debt free after 18 months and he tells everyone that it is the best thing she ever did for them. She now says that the little things that bothered her before don't seem to matter since they aren't stressed about finances and are working together.

Thinking of you. Shouldering that burden by yourself is terrible when both got into it together.

    Sending best wishes your way!

Oh Kat! You know my thoughts are with you as you work through this. It took two to do it....it will take 2 to undo it. You really need to emphasize what handling the burden alone is doing to you. Hugs friend.

All the best to you. I sincerely hope that by the end of the week your husband will be your load-sharing partner.

    Good vibes and best wishes!

I am sending you hugs. An honest/eye opening talk about finances can be very difficult, but you must work as partners. Keep positive, avoid blame, and focus on solutions.

This might help you a little: I tell my kids to let me know that they are about to tell me something I may not want to hear or that I may say no to. This gives me a warning and the opportunity to have an open mind.

You might want to start your conversation with something like this. "Honey, I have something to tell you that is making me sick to my stomach and you may not like what I have to say. Could you keep an open mind for a few minutes while I tell you what I have to say?" Of course, his mind may wander to all sorts of things, but maybe whatever he thinks of will be worse than what you tell him.

Woah. Short entry, but quite serious. Please don't lose heart if it doesn't go well at first. These things may take a bit of time....

Best wishes on getting the debt taken care of. Finances are always a big issue in relationships.
