Getting jobs

January 23rd, 2007 at 04:41 am

I have noticed recently, that including myself, many on the blogs have been talking about going full time, getting part time and in some cases getting a second job. I have learned so much on these blogs and have seen some great things happen (Price), but what the heck is up? Is the economy that bad or is everyone so impatient to get rid of debt, that they are accelerating it? I know in our case, a loss of income is the key, but also the price of gas and food just keep rising. Even the prices at ALDI keeps going up! What is going on????

I don't know for sure what is going on, I just kind of feel like things are coming to a head in the world today and that I want to be out of debt when that time comes. Like sometime soon we're going to see enormous interest rates on our credit cards, just because they can. I am very unsettled about my debt, I don't want to be at the mercy of the evil empire.

Though I probably won't get a part time job until my daughter turns 12 (she's almost 10.5) and I feel comfortable having her and her little brother come home to the house without me being there, I think I will need to then to get this thing under control. Probably just go back to the restaurant I used to work at. They'd let me work 10:30 to 2:30 M-F and I'd most likely be back before the kids got home.

My husband and I are "boomers". We seem to be coming closer to retirement age faster than we thought. Time flies! I think a lot of us are concerned about getting the debt paid so we can manage a comfortable retiremet (if we ever get to retire...)

Uhhh...I'm only considering re-employment in a traditional place in order to get JUST enough credits to be able to draw SS on my own merits - I'm not planning on any long term indentured service! Smile

That's true, too Lux. I've got 8 years in, even though I've been working since I was a child, I never had to pay into the system until I was 17 and I quit working to stay home with the kids at 25.

I'm don't know what anybody else has in mind, but speaking only for myself, yes, I'm just impatient to get rid of my debts. Big Grin
Sigh. Unfortunately, I haven't found a second job though.

I have to think that the general economy is weaker than it was a year ago. Or it could be that this site has formed a nucleus of really encouraging people, and you are all encouraging each other. More income, less spending is the classic way to go.
