Do I need electroshock therapy??

July 7th, 2007 at 04:28 am

Seriously! I need to stay away from eating out. What the heck is it going to take??? I am so sick of the BAD prices, LOUSY service and YUCKY food!! Yet I keep going!! WHY?? Today I made my kids go to Chili's for lunch. They did'nt want to. They begged for McD's and should have gotten home cooking!! The food was terrible and I did'nt check my bill and got RIPPED OFF!! I'm thinking I need a little device that gives me a shock every time I think about eating out. I guess my July goals should be my new budget and NOT EATING OUT! (Of course it does'nt count if someone else is paying!! Mom and dad are taking us out to eat tomorrow night! Smile )

I feel the exact same way about eating out, so we rarely do it unless it's a special occasion. Last month we had family visiting from out-of-state. All (five) of us decided we wanted pizza. We ordered one large pizza, one kid's hamburger, two or three salads, one loaf of garlic bread, one pitcher of beer, and maybe one or two soft drinks. The service was VERY slow. The kid's hamburger was gross and not cooked well, so my husband mentioned it to the waitress and she took it off the bill. But the bill still came to $80+!!! It wasn't until I got home that I looked more closely at the receipt and saw we were charged an extra $12 or $13 for a second pitcher of beer that we never ordered. I sure wished we had just picked up the pizza to eat at home; the bill would have been much smaller without all the extras, and I had salad fixings on hand.

If its July, you must be hot and tired, which is perfect for rip-offs. After all, you just wanted to eat and get outta there. Might be a pacing issue; have a little in reserve so you can make it home. Big Grin

I'm with you. We had bad service for a bad price last night at dinner as well.

You know for whatever reason around here I don't get the lure of the chains. We enjoy some of the hole-in-the-walls. But we used to really enjoy Applebees except we can't go there anymore without feeling like a sardine. They have opened about 100+ restaurants (granted many new homes too) in the area and every time we go out it is just jam packed. I am wondering where ALL These people came from??? They opened a new Sizzler we went to and the customer service was just horrid and they had tables like in the aisles - just weird - more sardine packing. Not only was it crowded and slow but people kept bumping into us.

Anyway, so I met my friend there for lunch one day thinking that at least it would be cheaper at lunch. Well it wasn't. Like $13 for Salad Bar and a soda. At least there was room to walk around.

They closed are favorite restaurant on the river which was pleasant, good food, good service, and replaced it with some awful place too. Can't win!

Glad we have a favorite place to go every night. We have a pleasant meal, good service, all for under $20.

My goal for this month is to stay away from fast food places, not only is the service bad but the cost alone after it is all said and done is too expensive

Get me within a few feet of a french fry....we don't go on peak hours. People think we're strange, but I can't handle the crowded places and you do get worse service then. We go late for lunch or early for dinner. And try to share food--the prices, wow. I understand--we still like eating out too much!

We eat out a lot but mostly on the weekends and mostly with a coupon or a gift card(my husband sometimes gets them from his boss for a job well done.) But here's what I do, if the service is bad, food not right, even if the entree I picked was a bad choice I wright a letter to the home office-their website usually has the address and spell out the problem. I almost always get another gift card for our trouble so I don't feel so bad if the first meal was bad. I once wrote Olive Garden when the wait was long and when we got in there, there were tons of empty tables and unbussed tables. I recieved 2 gift cards each for $20.00 one from the main office and one from the local restaurant and they thanked me for bringing the problem to their attention. The other nite we had dinner at Steak and Ale and the waiter was too busy fighting with his girlfriend to wait on our table so I told my husband"Time for another letter, huh." Dinner out is expensive and I can't see paying for bad service or food!

Thank you everyone for the support and ideas!

Baselle is right, we should pack snacks for those emergency times out and I do try to plan around meals. In this instance it was a special day out with my SIL and neice with a trip to the museum and lunch. McD's is what it should have been - for the kids.

And Monkey mama hits it on the head with the squished in sardines for sure! Much to Jan H's dismay I'm sure! Everyone is out paying too much for lousy service and food.

It's almost like being addicted to the holy grail. You are searching for that one perfect place (like Julie found - lucky duck!) and that one perfect meal, only to have your hopes dashed time after time.

But I do think I need to take Greyroma's advice and write Chilis a letter. I was overcharged and the food was NOT good! I was ripped off and I should'nt sit down about it!!

I guess we are lucky. I rarely have experienced bad service at restaurants. On the rare occassions that a waiter or waitress seems to stressed out or snappish, I've found that a simple "Hard day?" with a sympathetic smile improves the service 95 percent of the time.

Although we did walk out of a restaurant that gave us water and didn't come back to take our order for 30 minutes. Well, they never came back, and we walked out at 30 minutes.
