Sooo, I did'nt get "The Job"

January 29th, 2008 at 02:25 am

After I scrape my ego off the concrete, I will keep looking. After 4 months of seriously looking, I am very discouraged. Multiple resumes sent, three interviews, three rejections. Face it guys, its not like I am interviewing for a high tech job or bank presdient, I'm interviewing for receptionist/secretarial work. I have been doing this for five years, with previous experience and I am damn good at my job (check my references!!) I take a shower and dress decently and make articulate conversations with people. Sooooo, anyway..............

Aww Kathy, I'm so sorry you didn't get that job! I sure hope you find a good one soon.

Ahhh, thanks for the sympathy! I will glady accept any thrown my way as I am having my chocolate filled "pity-party"!

Oh man, I know exactly how you feel! I went through the same thing myself. It took me months of looking, applying, and interviewing to get my current job (also admin work). Most times I didn't even get the courtesy of being told I didn't get the job, I just had to figure it out as time passed with no call (that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine now, as a result)! Just keep telling yourself that YOUR perfect job is out there, and the one you didn't get wasn't it! It will happen, just keep doing what you're doing. And enjoy that chocolate, you deserve it!!

Sorry to hear that. I've been on both sides of the fence before, both trying to get hired as well as hiring. I can tell you that, sometimes, you get highly qualified and desirable people come through the door, but... if there is availability or they've just hired someone else right before you arrived, then the company I worked for would never approve of an additional hire. So, it's not always something that may be "wrong" with you so much as the status of the company at that time.

However, I've always tried to make a point with people whom I found to be highly desirable that I really meant it when I would keep their resume on the top of the pile. When an availability comes up, that's the people I always call first.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get the job. I know how disheartening it can be to put yourself out there over and over again, only to get nowhere. I went through it for eight months before finally finding something.

There is something out there for you, you just have to keep on believing and looking.

Sing it sister! At least they told you. There's always the possibility that you were the second choice. Maybe you'll get lucky when first choice shows up drunk on the job next week. You never know. Big Grin
Like LadyT, I got a lot of crickets after interviewing. No word means no somehow. I mean, tell me no, then its done and we can move on. I mean I'll tease you mercilessly and probably blog about you in wicked ways ... but the chances of me going postal on you are teeny.

Baselle, I must say the first evil thought that crept through my mind is "I hope the new person sucks! Big Grin" The HR lady was brand new at this last place and I know she really liked me. She said she would keep my resume (like BA said), and if I hear anything, to call her right away. Unfortunatley, she has only been there a WEEK, so I guess the second lady I interviewed with probably did'nt care what the HR lady thought. Too bad all they are looking for right now is attorneys and project managers!

I'm sorry you didn't get the job. My husband looked for 6 months before he found the right one, so I can sympathize. ((HUGS))

Sorry you are unable to find work. I use to Manage a bank and loved hiring clerical people to do teller and customer service, so don't limit yourself to one area, if you have clerical ability you would be an excellent customer service rep for a bank or a teller. Many banks also offer free education programs to advance your career. I started out as a secretary in a bank and was a Vice President and Manager when I left, all my education was paid for by the bank.

Sorry, you didn't get the job. I was a Legal Secretary for many, many years until my daughter got sick and then I needed to stay home. Anyhow, once I was staying home, I still needed an income and found an excellent job. A job in which I was able to buy my house with and pay all my bills with. If you are interested, you can check out www.marykay.com. Let me know and I can send you some information and help you get signed up and get some training. It is one of the things I do, but it is my biggest money maker.

Thanks again for the support guys!
Campfrugal, I know home party sales can be wonderful! I used to sell House of Lloyd and Tupperware. I was never a good salesperson, because I could never justify having someone pay for something they did'nt need or want. Smile I recently had offers to sell Partylite, Pamperedchef and Southern Living!

boomeyers. I get that. I don't like to buy items I don't want either. But, Mary Kay is different in the fact that no matter what, every woman and man uses some sort of skin care. It sells itself. It is just like going to the drugstore and buying Clinic or Maybelline. I have a great re-order business because people will always be washing their faces and need product. Unlike Partylite or Southern Living. Once you hang something on the wall or set a candle on the table, you usually don't reorder those items. If you change your mind, you can let me know. Hope things work out for you.

My worst was after graduating with a BA and could not even get a job at the mall! It is pretty pathetic when you can't even get hired for retail! Frown This was back in 1997 in San Diego and apparently it was a horrible job market. I ended up temping and the very first job wanted to hire me. Unfortunately by that point I had already decided to move home.
