Not much change.....

July 16th, 2008 at 05:22 am

So, DH is talking again. That is nice. We still are at an impasse on money and etc. I will cut up the cards, and we will pay them off. This should be fun! Frown He says he will put me on a $50 a week allowance for gas and food. I told him once I filled the tank in the van, he would starve. He said okay. I don't think we are seeing financial harmony here.

On a better note, we are using the Six Flags passes again tomorrow. And DD3 is going back to school on Thursday. I picked up an extra day at work starting next month too! That will help with the bills! This week etc I will be working 1/2 day Friday for someone, then Sat, Sun and Mon and Tues. Gotta figure out what to feed the family for dinners, cause obviously we won't have much money for this.

One store has a sale on Hamburger Helper and DH HATES it!! But by golly my friends, it is CHEAP and stretches for a family of 5. I think this is something I will definately invest in. Throw in some salad and viola! Let you know how it goes!

$50 a week?! Um, maybe he was joking?? Enjoy your Six Flags visit - sometimes having some fun can break the levity of a situation. Best wishes to you!!

Oh boy. Reminds me when D Ramsey said he was a total jerk to his wife about groceries so one day she said - "you go figure out how to feed the family on x." He said it woke him up. I think it wouldn't be the worst to give him grocery/gas duties for a while. $200/week would probably be quite frugal.

Your spouse is living in a dream world. Likewise, he has to realize he is part of the household too. Just because he looked the other way doesn't make him innocent. Come on.

I hadn't commented yet on this series of posts but just wanted to send hugs or something. You poor thing. Hang in there.

Glad that DH is speaking - I would take him on a little adventure to the grocery store and let him see how much things really cost. I did that once and it helped DH gain perspective. Or tell him to fill up your tank for you.

Good for you for cutting up the cards! DH might just still be reeling from his return to reality. Can he go over the budget with you? Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps.

Oh, at first I thought he gave each of you a play allowance of $50. When I realized that he said for gas AND groceries, I about fell over. I guess he doesn't want you to drive anywhere or eat anything. I'd give him the grocery list and say "have at it." See if he can stay within the tiny parameters he has set. Well, at least he is talking, but it still sounds like he is trying to punish you and not taking some responsibility for his own part. Hang in there. Hugs to you!

This would be the point I'd say, "That works for you but it doesn't work for me." I'd strive hard for a pleasant and unemotional tone of voice. Then I'd come back with a counter proposal of $X supported by facts - it costs X to fill up the van, X amount of gallons are used per week, your favorite foods (you probably know what your DH's favorite foods are) cost X, etc.

As frustrating as your DH's behavior is, he is now engaged in your mutual financial life. It's a start.

I think it's time for DH to do the grocery shopping and meal planning for a week or two.... Not to be blunt, but tell him to quit being a jerk and to start living in the real world.

Geez, now I'm mad at your husband and I don't even know him.....

Well, it's good your hubby is talking again. I think the other's ideas of having him do the grocery shopping and or filling up the tank might help him get a better perspective on how far $50 will go.

I couldn't even do 50$/week for groceries and gas. I say that even though I walk and bus, with a bus pass subsidized from work, so therefore no gas.

I don't know how nice it is that your hubby is talking when he is saying crap like that. I mean its better than not talking, but man, he has to grow a pair and get with the program. The program in 2008, not 1958.

And if you need a posse to come out there and make your DH eat some hamburger helper, I think that can be arranged.
